Super Soccer, SNES.
I played a lot of Super Soccer as a kid. It’s not a great game, but it does have some extremely catchy music.
Some of my favourite teams from Sensible Soccer (This is the Megadrive version).
Highlights include “These Teams” in Sad Things, “Wizzball” in Bad Spellings, presumably a reference to the C64 game Wizball which was written by Sensible Software’s founders, “Cannon Fodder” in Great Wars (and its manager Human Stupidity) and the whole of the R. U. A. Coder team, which I can’t help but feel was personally relevant to the creators.
A very nostalgic one for me - here’s the cover of Sensible World of Soccer, complete with sorta-creepy blurred-out player faces.
At the big VGJunk site today, I’m celebrating Euro 2012 with Taito’s arcade football title Football Champ! Hopefully you’ll enjoy it even if you’re not a soccer fan, because it’s got brutal violence, vast seas of smugness and an emotional Dutchman. You can read all about it here!
